Zocalos (hand painted Spanish tiles)

In the States you have wainscoting, which more often than not is a high density fiberboard paneling that covers the lower half of a wall. In Spain, fiberboard doesn’t cut it. Half walls of tile patterns are the standard here, and the work is beautiful and built to last. The word for these tile works are “Zocalos”. Great word. Sounds a bit like a word kids would use to tease each other. “You’r a zocalo”. “No I’m not” “Yes you are” “No I’m not”…..
